Crystal Bartlett

I was born in a house in Cranston, RI.  At the age of seven my parents decided to move to South
America, Colombia.  In Colombia we moved constantly.  At one point I wanted to go to dance
classes and piano classes but my parents didn't have the money.  At the age of seven someone
drew me a picture of a girl with a beautiful victorian dress.  I was so impressed by the fact that it
was possible to create such beauty on paper, that from that day on I began drawing for fun.  In the
process of being obsessed with drawing I self-taught myself to draw and paint.
Since art was a subject that I enjoyed and felt comfortable doing I decided to pursue it for a
while in school.  One day I met somone who really liked some of my art work and bought a piece of
mine and introduced me to someone who let me use studio space and do my first art show.
Having that studio space for a couple of months gave my a chance to paint again.  Lately being an
artist for me has been having the need to express and create.  This need becomes an unbearable
itch that I have to scratch.  The fire and passion of creativity in some form or medium is branded
upon my soul.  It is a blessing yet a curse.  My paintings also help me express feelings that I
choose not to bluntly express through words.
